UNITED SOUND

Relationships that Resonate

The question to ask is "who belongs in music?" and that answer is "EVERYONE!!"

United Sound is a music club for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their typical peers.  We meet one day a week for 45 mins, where the students mentors teach their "new musician" with adaptive materials to read rhythms, identify where notes are played on their instrument, and most importantly, how to play their chosen instrument for performance.

Each semester the new musicians have the opportunity to provide an authentic contribution to a performance with the full ensemble with the guidance of their mentors.

Since the North Cobb United Sound's inception in January 2017, we have had one student participate in the Music for All United Sound Ensemble in Indianapolis in conjunction with the MFA National Festival, two performances (one with band, and one with orchestra), and a special performance at the Cobb County Teacher Kick-Off as part of the winning TeacherTalk on United Sound.
